Kimmich |Smith Architecture, LLC is a full service Architecture firm located in Tampa. Established in 2017, the Principals and staff of Kimmich | Smith Architecture, LLC bring more than 4 decades of combined experience through which they have continued to surpass the expectations of their clients with exceptional design solutions and excellent client services.

Justin A. Kimmich, NCARB

Founding President of the firm, Mr. Kimmich has a passion for seeing the art of building meet the functional design for people collide in solution that is architecture. As a graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale and Texas A&M, his Master’s Thesis surrounded the embodiment of service to people in a self-sustaining disaster relieve housing project.  Throughout his academic career Mr. Kimmich had opportunities to work with small firms providing construction document production and 3D modeling on a number of projects including single family houses, offices, restaurants and schools. Following that he went to work for a large scale firm, Kendall Heaton & Associates in Houston, TX whose client base consisted of world renowned Design Architects such as Foster+Partners, Cesar Pelli, & Pickard Chilton Architects.

Mr. Kimmich was formerly a partner with Santiesteban & Associates Architects for 5 years where he designed, managed and oversaw several projects of varying sizes, scales and typologies. From single family houses, custom retail build-outs, and restaurants to high rise condominiums, high rise hotels and even master plans of new universities.

Justin excels in client relations, design through technology, complex integrated relationships, 3D design and rendering as well as Construction & Contract Document development.

Ernest L. Smith, NCARB

Co-Founder, Principal and Past President of Smith/Barnes Architecture Inc. An honor graduate of Auburn University and senior principal. He is a registered architect in the State of Florida and a member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards with over 40 years of professional experience designing a variety of award winning projects. Ernie’s extraordinary talent has resulted in the design of numerous high rise residential towers throughout Florida, including his involvement with 14 luxury towers for visionary residential developer, Raymond Lutgert. Prior to Smith Barnes Architecture, Ernie was one of the original founders of The Design Advocates, Inc. (1975). His designs for commercial office, residential, recreational and golf course developments have also been recognized locally and nationally through awards and publications.

He is established among the top designers in the region, he has received the Better Homes and Gardens Award for the Best Design for Multi-Family Residential Housing and the Best Multi-Family Residential Housing Award of the Decade, The West Central Florida Chapter AIA Award for the Best Design for Multi-Family Residential Housing, and the Architect’s Annual Building Awards Association Merit Award for his work in Carrollwood Village in Tampa. Mr. Smith’s Company was the recipient of multiple Aurora Awards from 1994 thru 2007 for luxury high rise condominiums in Naples and Bonita Bay. He was also presented with the outstanding masonry project of the year in 2002 as architect for the Ritz Carlton Sarasota. Mr. Smith’s Company was awarded the Outstanding Special Use Building Judge’s Award for NAIOP for “Ovation – luxury high rise condominium in St. Petersburg in 2011. 

Mr. Smith has been involved with over 25 luxury high rise condominiums and  apartments over the past thirty years. His company is recognized as on of the leading design architects on the West Coast of Florida.

Angela N. Kimmich

Co-Founder and Principal, Mrs. Kimmich has a passion for the transforming of a space in response to the client’s desires, site context and culture of every project. It is this response that allows her to engage uniquely with a project, its program and its site to create exceptionally creative solutions in her designs. As a graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale and Texas A&M, her Master’s Thesis explored the self-sustaining and off-grid living community using hay bale construction. Her graduate work opened the door for her to be invited to work at a large scale Houston-based firm Kendall Heaton and Associates where she produced construction documents and details for world-renowned Architect Cesar Pelli.

Mrs. Kimmich was previously with Santiesteban & Associates Architects where she managed several projects—many simultaneously. From her experience she brings a great strength in design, organization, client relations and management of luxury residential design, low- rise and high-rise multi-family and mixed use developments as well as retail and office build-outs.
